TO BE CREATIVE YOU NEED TO ESTABLISH A MINDSET FOR SUCCESS. TO BE PRODUCTIVE YOU SIMPLY HAVE TO TRY.
[I have accomplished quite a bit in my life so far, and I intend to accomplish a whole lot more before I am through. The following is a brief overview of the mindset I use to be creative and productive]
Believe in yourself, think about heroic adventures, and don't be afraid to dream big. There are no limits to what a person can achieve: allow yourself to be the hero in your thoughts and ambitions, and then make them real. Epic accomplishments are possible if you never ever give up. Be inquisitive and courageous – great things will happen.
In my career I have chosen to try and solve the most challenging technologies I could conceive, which meant virtually everyone wouldn’t understand my work. I believe it is the responsibility of mankind to never rest on its laurels and to strive for progress. In one word, ingenuity, is the tool that has allowed mankind to evolve and thrive. It is the determining factor of our success and is the value I have strived to represent and inspire. Productivity is the essential component to actualize ingenuity, make the attempt to make your dreams and thoughts a reality. It’s oaky to try and fail, it’s not okay not to try.
Science and engineering is not magic. The technologies that surround us come from millennia of human ingenuity and productivity. MAG R&D pays respect to that momentum and strives to pursue it and expand it.
My inventions are summed up best by an observation a friend of mine (Del Schroeder, a retired engineer from General Motors), “Doug’s inventions are simply elegant, and elegantly simple”. I consider that to be one of the greatest compliments anyone who creates new products and technologies for a living can receive. It is fairly easy to make things complicated, it is difficult to make them simple.
Business can be difficult, making a profit can even be more difficult. Things will go wrong and there is no such thing as fair, and that is only the beginning. There is never enough time, and money is always short, and there are many things you simply cannot control. To be successful requires true grit, persistence and determination, and an unshakable belief in yourself, and what you are doing. Keep your eyes wide open, believe in yourself, and never ever give up – keep moving forward, no matter what.
